Building Things. Fixing Things.
The above is what I’m passionate about, and also what I’m skilled at. I am happiest when I have a tool in my hand.
I attended San Diego State University and earned a Bachelor’s in Film, Television, and New Media production. I focused on production design – set design and set construction. Later, I worked in television doing drafting, 3D modeling, and set design.
During college I worked for several years as a bike mechanic at REI in Encinitas. While I naively believed I knew a fair bit when I began, I expanded and solidified my mechanical knowledge.
Afterward, I moved to Los Angeles and bought a Pearson Triton, one of the first production fiberglass sailboats. Mine was built in 1959. Extensive renovations aboard expanded my skills in woodworking, metalwork, fiberglass, rigging, and troubleshooting. My wife and I fulfilled a long-time dream when we sailed to Hawaii in Summer 2021.
I added silver brazing and mount making to my repertoire of skills when I began working in the world of museums. First at the Fowler at UCLA, MOCA, and then at the Getty Center. During this time I progressed as a woodworker and eventually began creating custom cabinetry and furniture.
I’m always learning, strive to get work finished right the first time, and I love a project.
